Senior Women's Head Coach
Andy brings with him a wealth of experience, accumulated over 50 years of involvement in the sport which has included time as Club Captain at York City Rowing Club and President of Newcastle University Boat Club and a drive for constant improvement both in himself and his athletes. Andy is always bringing new ideas to his coahing and recently completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Professional Practice in Sports Coaching as part of his British Rowing Level 4 qualification . He takes a personal interest in the development of everyone he coaches and thanks to this dedication, Andy has maintained consistent results across his time at York. These include a Top 3 finish in the Challenge academic category at WeHoRR and repeated qualifications for the Colgan foundation cup at Henley Women’s regatta.
Senior Men's Head Coach
With 20 years of experience which has over time included being a coach of the successful York City Rowing Club Juniors, and Durham University Boat Club novice program, Sean has been at the heart of the Senior men at York since 2008 and over this period he has accumulated some outstanding results. With 2 boats qualified for Henley Royal Regatta in the last 3 years as well as winning the medium academic Pennant at HORR 2023. Sean goes into the 2023/24 season looking to repeat and build upon the significant increase in the size of the squad
Novice Men's Coach
As a junior Harry was coached by our Senior Men’s coach Sean during which time he achieved great success winning silver in the 2x category at Junior Champs.
Harry joins us this year as the lead coach of our novice men’s program and will bring his experience as a rower to his coaching as he welcomes a new cohort of novices in september.
Senior Men's Assistant Coach
Frank Joined UYBC last season to assist with the successful novice men’s program alongside outgoing Novice coach Hilary Howe and contributed to a successful year for the squad culminating in them winning the Novice 8+ category at Marlow Regatta 2023. This year Frank joins the senior men’s program working alongside Sean Potter to build on the success of last season with hopes of another qualification for HRR in 2024.
Matt Joined UYBC as a student in 2020. In his second year at the club he began assisting with coaching our recreational squad YUROW. Now going into his third year of coaching and now studying for a PhD in computer science, Matt regularly gives up time after his own rowing to help YUROW members progress their own rowing and find enjoyment in the sport
Andrew returns to UYBC this year after previously coaching the senior men on their 2022 Prince Albert Challenge Cup campaign. This season he will be joining Andy Robertson to work with the senior women as they continue to grow as a squad. .Andrew is also the 3rd generation of coaches at UYBC, having coached our Senior Men's coach, Sean at York City Rowing Club who in turn coached our Novice Men's coach Harry
